I find this brochure very interesting. Mostly because i know people of many descents and all of them seem to relish their heritage. Its not only their past, but a huge part of their identity. I find it strange that the German-American population would not also take part in this. In the brochure, it stated that it is not because of anti-German sentiment after the world wars but I find it hard to believe that that did not play some part. It is perplexing to me that a century after the initial emigration of many Germans, they have laid down their ancestry and only call themselves American without any extra ancestry. As they established themselves in America, most of them moving into the northern midwest, they tried to promote their ancestry with print media and private German education, but all of this just assimilated them more into Americans. Today the group of people that still show the indelible mark of Germany's influence are the Amish. Along side this group is many organizations that were started by Germans such as Oscar Meyer and still used words such as kindergarten, dachshund und pretzel. This brochure described a great deal about German culture today.
