Welcome to our class blog!

We will be using this blog throughout the semester for two kinds of assignments:

1. Once per chapter, the homework plan will direct you to post a response to the culture readings for the chapter on the blog.

2. Roughly every other week, the homework plan will direct you to post here for your Abenteuer mit Deutsch (AMD) assignment. First you do a fun activity that involves German, then you post about it. You should spend an hour total on this (maybe 45-55 minutes doing something, 5-15 minutes posting about it). See Was ist ein AMD, AMD Ideen and Beispiele for ideas. This should get you excited about the kinds of things you can do!

Whenever you post something, please include your name and the name of the assignment (e.g. AMD2, Kultur5) as labels. See "Blog: How To" for more details!

So Perfeckt

Hallo!!

Before I started this class, I asked people to send me German songs that they like (My high school had a large German exchange program, so I have a lot of Facebook friends who are German.). For this assignment, I listened to a few of the songs that they proposed. One of these songs was recommended to me by Lauren before she entered the class. I have listened to it before, but I listened to this again. This time, I tried really hard to understand what they were saying. Last night, I went over to my friends house, and we listened to German songs on Youtube. She went to German last summer, so she knows some popular German songs. We listened to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeMLX5gvscg The video is strange to me because it involves cheerleaders and football players, and Germany has neither. Much of the video is "so perfekt" repeating. There are other words, but the video is basically about how someone isn't perfect. Then, he hooks up with a cheerleader at prom, and he starts to like the world a lot more. I really like this song. It is easy to understand, and the words are easy to follow along to.

I also tried to have a conversation with one of my German friends, Julian, but it didn't work out. Our conversation lasted about 2 minutes, and then I didn't know anymore German.

AMD 1

When i was in Germany, i listened to a song that i really liked called Geile Zeit by Juli. While there, i tried to just sing along even though i didnt know what i was saying or if i was even saying it right. For this post, i decided to go back to that song and listen to it and see if i could understand anything now or (with german subtitles) know any of the words. It was really cool to actually hear and see words that i know! I also learned how to say i'm sorry which is tut mir leid. I also listened to it with english subtitles to see what the song was actually about. The phrases didn't really make sense. When i asked one of my German friends she said that the song was about a couple that broke up. Another song that was recommended that i listen to was Monsta by Culcha Candela. This was a German rap song that i also heard over there. I thought this was a good contrast to Geile Zeit because it was much faster. I had to look up the words to even understand anything in this one!

Hallo!

I viewed the music video (and listened to) the German song: Millionär by Die Prinzen. Here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGCmZPfe_bU&feature=related. This German music video was introduced to me in my German 1 class, and was shown in the accompanying video for the book Komm Mit! (here is a link to the book: http://www.amazon.com/Komm-Mit-Holt-German-Level/dp/0030565979). I think this video is very funny, and the song is actually quite catchy. I really enjoy the whole theme of the song, which has to do with wanting to have a large amount of money. I always find it funny how the group is always saying "geld" in the song, which translates to "money." My favorite line is "Ich hab kein geld, hab keine Ahnung" which translates to "I have no money, and no ideas." Overall, I found this video/song quite easy to listen to (and easy to understand), while at the same time being catchy and funny.
