AMD 2

I have watched the German movie "Run Lola Run" or "Lola Rennt." This is a captivating movie, but definitely extremely quirky. It is about a women named Lola who has to get her boyfriend a large amount of money in 20 minutes. There are three different outcomes that are determined by three small different events that change what happens. The movie is not too hard to follow in German, but make sure the subtitles in English are on! The plot isn't complicating, but the movie is different then most movies I have seen. I thought the movie was okay, but it wasn't one of my favorite movies.

Overall, like I said before, I thought the movie was okay. Der Film ist nicht super, aber sie ist lustig. Ich gebe "Lola Rennt" drei Sterne.

Fussball!!

Guten Morgen!!!

Today, I watched Sportchau, Deutschland's equivalent to Sportcenter. The announcer ist sehr ausshend. They were talking about Fussball, which literally translate to football. I am guessing they were talking about soccer because very few people outside of the United States care about American football. The eins disadvantage of this video ist that der Herr sprecht Spanish, and there was a voice-over speaking Deutsch. This made a it a little hard to decipher which was German and which Spanish because I am not the best at either language. The Fussball players aren't bad ausshend either. :) Most of the video is about a guy named Raul, but I can't figure out exactly who he is. Apparently, he lived in a town, and he liked going to a coffee shop. I think he is also a supporter of youth Fussball. There is a man at the bottom of the screen that sprecht(d) at the beginning of the video is Spanish, and I think they are talking about him. I can't be sure of that though. There was another guy who sprechen to alot throughout the video, do they may be talking about him, too. The first guy definitely plays Fussball because I saw him in the video with a warmup on. I had to stop the video several times throughout to try to figure out what they were saying. The Deutsch that was sprecht(en) was at a much higher level than I could understand.

New Age German Music

for my second post, I decided to listen to German Music. I went onto youtube and typed in "New German Music 2011." I was interested to see what people my age in Germany listened to. Basically what I discovered, is that it is the same kind of music, just in the German language instead of English.

One of the things I found very funny about what kids in Germany listen to today, is that they love American artist like Lady GaGa. I actually found a song where Lady GaGa is speaking in German. It's a typical Lady GaGa song just in a different language, needless to say it freaks me out just as much as her normal songs do. here it is....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rtOUAG_50c

I found a couple of songs that I tried to understand what they were saying because they were slow enough, but I still don't know the language well enough to be able to tell exactly what every lyrics and line of the song means. It was a good feeling though knowing a lot of the words in the song, and also being able to figure out what some of the words meant. Trying to have a conversation...

For this post I decided to Skype with my exchange student, Christina. She came to my town a few years ago and then I went and stayed with her for 3 weeks. We talked about how i was taking german and how i am coming this summer to stay with her again. She decided that she wanted to test how much i knew so far so we tried having an only german conversation. It was SO hard!! I didn't realize how fast actual german speakers speak. I had to have her slow down a lot. She said that i was doing pretty well but that i had a heavy accent. She tried to teach me how to say a few more things. I thought it was interesting that she used some different words that meant the same thing. When she asked where i come from she didn't use kommen, she used another word that i didn't understand. She told me that that was a more commonly used verb in everyday use. I think this is what makes learning another language hard because there are so many ways to express the same thing. After our conversation, we decided that we are going to try to Skype each week so that she can help me with my german and so i can get more practice speaking it.

Welcome to our class blog!

We will be using this blog throughout the semester for two kinds of assignments:

1. Once per chapter, the homework plan will direct you to post a response to the culture readings for the chapter on the blog.

2. Roughly every other week, the homework plan will direct you to post here for your Abenteuer mit Deutsch (AMD) assignment. First you do a fun activity that involves German, then you post about it. You should spend an hour total on this (maybe 45-55 minutes doing something, 5-15 minutes posting about it). See Was ist ein AMD, AMD Ideen and Beispiele for ideas. This should get you excited about the kinds of things you can do!

Whenever you post something, please include your name and the name of the assignment (e.g. AMD2, Kultur5) as labels. See "Blog: How To" for more details!
