The U.S. college student needs to take lessons from German beer drinkers. German beer drinkers have class and quality placed into their beers that is found in premium brewed private distilleries across the nation. Beer in the U.S. is available at these breweries but is offered at a premium price. Because of this, college students prefer the cheaply manufactured large scale products. These products are creating a crisis across College campuses all over the U.S. Red cups filled with Natural Ice light and are being served all over the nation. The good old fashioned glass bottle is being replaced by the red cup. Campus Life requirements at University of Michigan now require that there be no glass bottles allowed at registered parties because of the safety issue of a bottle breaking. An understandable decree but a class killer at the same time.
It’s not only the bottles that are being replaced by trash but also the beverage itself. U.S. students have made it clear they prefer quantity over quality by buying the cheapest booze around for a cheap thrill. Compared to the German described in Beer, Brewskies and Liquid Breadour alcohol is cretanous in manner. It is not brewed from a local distillery but comes off an assembly line. Our imported beer as well faces a crisis in quality. Beer companies know that Americans are not picky about their selections. Because of this, one will easily taste the difference between a beer brewed and shipped to the U.S. and the home brewing nation’s version of the beer.Heineken is an example of a beer that is shipped from Holland but is watered down for U.S. consumption.
U.S. students however share public drunkenness as a commonality. The U.S. student lives for the Friday night shenanigans that are bound to partake with forgetful moments. Capping the Bottle however paints a picture of Germany being a 24/7 Saint Patrick ’s Day. Because of this we need to fight for the number one position in public drunkenness. So crack open a bottle before your next class and see what happens!
